Think for a moment about the kindof midwife you’d be in an ideal environment. You’d be cool and calm, patientand compassionate, and always have time for that mum who’s having a post-birth moment’ or needs some extra breastfeeding support.
And that’s exactly whatyou’ll be at South Canterbury District Health Board.
Welcome to Timaru Hospital’s Jean Todd Maternity Unit. We provideprimary and secondary care to women in South Canterbury.
This is hands-onmidwifery work; we see around 600 births a year, ranging from normal andlow-risk to complex and high-needs.
You’ll provide ward-basedantenatal and postnatal care, and attend births. There’s also a certain amountof administration work, with admissions, discharges, and patient notes, and youmight sometimes need to accompany patients to larger tertiary hospitals.
As part of our 24 / 7 roster youcan expect to work some nights, where there are other responsibilities, such ascleaning delivery suites.
The core team at night also doesn’t include anobstetrician, so you’ll need to quickly be able to read a situation and make afast decision about whether calling one in is indicated.
Welcome to a better career. In this smaller unit, you’re a midwife,a support person, and an advocate for the women and babies in your care.
You’llunderstand the emotional highs and lows that come with this transformative timeof their lives, and be able to develop a relationship where they trust andconnect with you.
This is a role for a midwife with high professionalstandards, who wants to provide a service you’re proud of.
You’ll be well-supported by therest of the staff. Our teams are self-led, which means that changes are made bypeople on the floor, not in offices.
We’re a collaborative team that worksclosely to make sure our patients get the best outcomes, and that our workenvironment is the best you could wish for.
Welcome to the Timaru District. If it’s a lifestyle change you’relooking for, this is where you’ll find it. As well as very little traffic, and afriendly, relaxed community.
Not to mention easy access to outdoor and culturalactivities all year round. You’ll find plenty to refresh you outside work andhave more time to do it too.
Welcome to our community. This isn’t a place where you wave yourpatients goodbye at the door this is a small, close knit place, and you’llwatch their babies grow as you go about your daily life.
This is midwifery as you’vealways imagined it. And if you’re ready to take on this very satisfying roleand lifestyle, then it’s time to take the opportunity.
