About this role

  • Are you an experienced Veterinarian looking for a new challenge where you can make a difference?
  • Verification Services is looking for a Veterinary Reliever to join the Establishment team for Dunedin where you will be part of a supportive local MPI and wider team community.

    While the role is best suited to experienced Veterinary Verifiers, we are also very happy to consider appropriately experienced applicants from private practice looking to make a change.

    The purpose of this position is to undertake verification activities in line with current legislation and organisational requirements, thereby permitting the issue of official assurances.

    The role involves relieving at premises in the Dunedin Establishment team, but you may be required to relieve at premises in other parts of the country when the need arises.

  • The team has premises located in Balclutha, Mosgiel, Oamaru, Timaru and Ashburton. As a Reliever you will be required to cover any leave taken by on-plant Veterinarians;
  • at times this will include weekend work and will also require you undertake on-farm audits.

    Reporting to the Team Manager Establishment Dunedin, the role sits within the Establishment group of the Verification Services directorate.

    MPI Verification Services (MPI VS) provides a range of food safety and biosecurity verification and certification services to support market access strategies and setting standards.

  • A Qualified and registered Veterinarian
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices associated with HACCP, Quality Assurance systems, Risk Management Systems
  • Verbal and written skills, verbal and analytical reasoning skills
  • Integrity and trust, ethics and values, resilience, adaptability and openness
  • Persuading and influencing, team work, planning and organising
  • Computer literacy can operate standard and customised software to an acceptable standard e.g. word-processing, excel, internet, email, database, secure sites, electronic certification, residues etc
  • An understanding of basic food technology
