Being a growth council brings many challenges, but our Transport division is up for those challenges! Transport at TCC is focused on creating a safe, sustainable and innovative transport solutions that our community can use with confidence.

Tauranga is at the start of the journey relating to mode shift and this role is pivotal in shaping that journey and helping to design and implement world class facilities that attract users to Walking, Cycling and use of public transport in this wonderful city we call home!

Our Transport Safety team have a wide range of skills and experience and are responsible for valuable transport safety projects for TCC and our community.

The team function largely in a Subject Matter Expert role, developing the scope and delivery requirements, focussing on providing expert evidence based traffic safety advice.

We are looking for our next Team Leader : Transport Safety to join our Network Safety and Sustainability team. Not only a Team Leader but also someone who will be a subject matter expert on the topic of or all things Network safety.

This role is for someone who has a passion for delivering innovation and looking at the hard problems and finding win win solutions with the best outcomes for everyone.

The successful applicant will help supercharge the network safety team through mentoring, leading, directing and growing this team navigating and overcoming current bottlenecks whilst also accommodating future growth.

The traffic engineering team have a wide range of skills and experience and this leadership role is a mixture of team management (reporting, mentoring work allocation etc) and being the boots on the ground, solving problems and doing what you are passionate about along with the team.

To be successful in the role, you will be / have the following :

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and presentation skills
  • Previous track record of high performance teams under their leadership
  • A history of achieving win win outcomes and the ability to look outside the box to deliver innovative projects
  • An experienced traffic engineer with the knowledge of projects that deliver mode shift and mode balance in networks
  • An understanding of traffic signal operations and SCATS and the ability to work collaboratively with adjacent network operators such as Waka Kotahi and the WBoPDC
  • A high degree of interpersonal skills and the ability to talk to a range of groups and stakeholders and communicate in a way that they feel engaged and understand the outcomes
  • What the role will offer is a great team, a wide range of projects including the complex and difficult locations and the ability to grow and develop as a leader in this challenging and growing city.
