On this project, you will be working with senior engineers developing a solution to facilitate the remote support of radios in the field.

This will include developing our ability to diagnose and rectify software faults on radios remotely and providing an infrastructure for our engineers to work remotely from home without having to replicate a complex hardware set up.

You will be involved in :

  • Accessing visual interfaces (LED displays)
  • Receiving and sending audio
  • Sending and receiving of serial control channel commands
  • Providing UI via HTML and JavaScript
  • Controlling radio resets and firmware updates remotely
  • This is an exciting project which provides exposure to a number of core areas in the following fields :

  • Embedded software development;
  • Internet and radio protocols (CoAP, CCDI*, HTML, WebSockets, Audio streaming, Bitmap streaming); and
  • Industrial internet of things (IIoT).
  • This project would be suited to someone with a strong web development background, with skills in JavaScript and ideally some experience in the handling of audio streaming over TCP / IP.

    You will also need to be comfortable programming in C, and have an interest in embedded programming.

  • CCDI stands for Computer Controlled Data Interface and is a Tait proprietary serial protocol for sending control and query commands to our radios.

    To be eligible for a summer internship, you must :

  • Be studying, or have recently completed, an undergraduate or postgraduate degree or qualification at NZQA level 7-10. If study has been completed, the closing date of your final semester should be less than 12 months ago.
  • Be studying science, technology, engineering, design or business at a New Zealand tertiary education institute.
  • Be legally permitted to work in New Zealand.
  • This is a fixed term paid summer internship position for 400 hours, commencing in November 2020.
