We have a fantastic opportunity for a Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Advisor within our New Zealand business.

The Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Advisor will provide site management and technical leadership for all HSE activities including management system deployment, compliance, and auditing.

The role will be site based at Freemans Bay, Auckland.


  • To support the implementation of the HBS HSE strategy and support the HSE Leader and CRL Project team to achieve the vision of Zero Harm.
  • Deploy, monitor and review the HBS Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Management Systems to ensure compliance with legal and corporate requirements.
  • Lead, promote and support alignment with the Principal Contractor’s HSE requirements for the Project.
  • Partner with leaders to continuously improve HSE culture, awareness and accountability systems.
  • Lead deployment of HBS's risk assessment process and control plans development
  • Lead and participate in incident investigations and continuous improvement activities.
  • Contribute to and cascade the HBS HSE initiatives and strategy across the New Zealand business to ensure performance to plan for leading and lagging indicators, safety initiatives, projects and safety reporting requirements and systems.
  • Support incident investigation activities, root cause analysis, corrective action identification and closure.
  • Work closely with project leaders to measure and communicate HSE performance
  • Measuring, monitoring and reviewing the effectiveness of strategies, while identifying areas for improvement.
  • Implement strategies and tactics for successful management of injury / illness cases and costs reductions.
  • Qualifications / Experience

    To succeed in this exciting role, you will ideally hold a tertiary qualification in an engineering discipline, or in a related science or technical field and an advanced degree, Six Sigma / Lean certification and training qualifications are desirable.

    You should have HSE accredited training; be ICAM (or equivalent) investigator qualified and have an ability to obtain Ministry of Justice (MOJ) clearances.

    You will also possess exceptional communication and relationship management skills; comprehensive knowledge of New Zealand HSE laws including regulations and approved codes of practice and knowledge of and direct experience in Health, Safety and Environment auditing and management systems.
