Casual Residential Youth Workers

We are looking for suitably qualified and / or experienced Residential Youth Workers to provide casual relief support (day shifts and night shifts), which sometimes is requested at short notice at Te Poutama Ārahi Rangatahi, a residential treatment facility based in Christchurch, managed by Barnardos.

Shift times are :

  • 6.30am to 3pm
  • 2.00pm to 10.30pm
  • 10.30pm to 6.30am.
  • The facility is the only one of its kind in New Zealand, which accommodates males aged 12 16 years who have engaged in harmful sexual behaviour.

    The facility operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, providing treatment, education and residential care for up to 12 residents at any one time.

    Working in a residential treatment environment can be challenging but it is also rewarding. The role of a casual Residential Youth Worker is to support youth to make positive changes in their lives.

    If you thrive on variety, a challenge and enjoy flexible working conditions, then a role like this could be ideal for you.

    To be successful you will need :

  • experience and skills working with youth in a residential setting (highly desirable)
  • a formal qualification in human services (or currently studying towards one) is highly desirable
  • a current full driver’s licence (required)
  • passion for working with youth, and a belief that young people deserve the opportunity to grow and learn
  • professional integrity
  • resilience and dedication.
