Our Role

The role will be based in our office in Hamilton, New Zealand and is responsible for mining engineering support at Graymont operations in Oparure and Makareao in New Zealand and Queensland in Australia.

Reporting to the Global Mine Engineering Lead based in Australia the Mining Engineer will work closely with the regional geologist and quarry operations teams in developing optimized mine plans, updating, and implementing reclamation plans, verifying, and reconciling production volumes, assisting in annual reserve estimates, and identifying potential efficiency improvements and cost savings in areas pertaining to mining engineering.

The position requires frequent travel including the ability to travel and work internationally.

  • Key responsibilities include;
  • Develop and maintain mine plans for Graymont quarries in in New Zealand and Australia, as assigned.
  • Create and update pit designs using appropriate internal standards.
  • Support mine permitting and tenement maintenance activities.
  • Conduct efficiency improvement assessments to identify areas for potential cost-savings and support quarry automation.
  • Provide estimates of reclamation costs for calculation of Graymont’s decommissioning and restoration provision.
  • Verify reserve volumes at each Graymont quarry and contribute to the annual reserve estimation process.
  • Provide management and supervision for contract mining campaigns
  • Provide the required technical expertise to conduct and assess the environmental impact of mining activities in accordance with Graymont standard.
  • You must have the right to live and work in New Zealand to be considered for this role.

    The successful candidate have a tertiary technical qualifications in Mining Engineering with proven experience in mine planning preferably from an open pit mine with successful years of professional experience.

    You have exceptional communication written and communication skills, and capable of working autonomously. You also have strong experience in Microsoft office and data management software.

    Having experience in using mine planning and geological software (Surpac preferable) and strong understanding of computer based mine planning principles and processes would be an advantage.

    The role will require you to t ravel required up to 40% of the time, mostly in New Zealand and Australia. Preferably have a valid driver’s license and be eligible to obtain passport and visa to travel internationally.
