With such a large area and array of plant species, this is a unique opportunity to become part of a great team and work with a variety of plants!He kōrero mōu : About youWe're looking for someone with a passion for plants, broad horticultural knowledge, a creative eye and experience in the cultivation and management of plant collections.
You will have responsibilities for ensuring plant collections are maintained to the highest standards and reflect the principal aims of a botanic garden : conservation, education, research, and recreation.
You will also assist with the development of a pool of skilled horticulturists through training and mentoring emerging staff who are participating in horticultural education programmes.
We need you to have around two to five years of practical experience in amenity horticulture. You must have demonstrated a level of expertise and interest in the relevant plant groups and broad general horticultural skills and knowledge with an emphasis on the management of plant collections.
It'd be great if you have botanic garden experience, but it may be that your relevant experience is within private or public gardens or the landscape sector.
You will need to demonstrate confidence and experience with the planning of plantings. You will also have effective time management, good self-
motivation and have pride in your eye for detail. All of this will be backed with an appropriate horticultural qualification or a demonstrated equivalent competence and knowledge in a related field.

Your day will never be boring, and you will have lots of variety. This role will give you the opportunity to work with the team at the Botanic Gardens as well as other Auckland Council departments and stakeholders to achieve a wide range of outcomes -
including Local and Sports Parks, Biodiversity, Biosecurity, and the Stormwater team.If you have a passion for plants, a creative eye, and experience in the cultivation and management of plant collections, this role is for you!Please note : The hours for this role will be Monday through Friday, 7 : 30 to 4 : 00 pm with rostered weekend shifts.
