Senior Control and Instrumentation Engineer

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Control and Instrumentation Engineering team, in the position of Senior Control and Instrumentation Engineer based in Hamilton or Rotorua.

You will ensure the integrity of Hydro and Geothermal C&I assets within the Operations Group and be part of the team that provides operational engineering support, project engineering and perform economic evaluation for enhancement opportunities of existing C&I assets and new developments to the generation assets across Mercury's business units as requested.

As a Senior Control and Instrumentation Engineer, you will be an experienced practitioner who applies technical knowledge and skill, supervises others and provides technical guidance to the C&I Engineering team.

This exceptional team provides world-class engineering best practices to continually monitor and report the C&I asset condition and risk, so that the performance and remaining life of C&I equipment is understood at all times and reinvestment can be optimised appropriately to meet the needs of the company.

To be successful in this application, you must :

  • have a Graduate degree or equivalent in Control, Electrical, Electronics and / or Communications Engineering
  • have a minimum of 8 years relevant experience
  • have a high a level of project development, engineering design, planning and organisation skills
  • have a structured approach to problem solving
  • excellent engineering judgement and an effective working knowledge of engineering principles and practices
  • have an excellent ability to work / lead in a team environment
  • be able to take ideas from concept through to completion
  • have excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate with all levels throughout the organisation
  • computer skills including the ability to use analytical and presentation applications
  • Additionally, it would be beneficial but not essential if you have :

  • knowledge of electricity generating plant
  • good technical understanding of the maintenance needs of power generation plant and ancillary systems
  • good working knowledge of all legislation relevant to generation sites
