  • What You Will Do

    Applications are invited for a senior continuing academic position in Te Kura Mātai Hauora - School of Health Sciences in the subject area of Child Health and Development.

    The holder of the position will be involved in the development and expansion of our undergraduate maternal and child health offerings, and will contribute to teaching Masters coursework in the Child and Family Psychology programme.

    Thus, they will provide major contributions to course design and delivery at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. They will also engage in postgraduate student research supervision, and programme coordination within the School of Health Sciences / Te Kura Mātai Hauora.

    We seek someone who can work comfortably within a life course and ecological framework on issues relating to child health.

    Specific areas of interest include maternal and child mental health, high risk child development, the social and biological determinants of child health, developmental neuroimaging, epigenetics, and social disparities in maternal and child health.

    Expertise in the development of innovative public health and clinical interventions to improve outcomes and reduce social disparities for children and families is also highly desirable.

    The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate an active commitment to continuing their professional development and upholding the values, tikanga, kawa and traditions as guided by Ngāi Tūāhuriri, the mana whenua, in their everyday practices as a teacher and research scholar.

    Ability in te reo Māori me āna tikanga would be an advantage.

    Who You Are

    Applicants will have a PhD in Child Developmental Psychology, Child Clinical Psychology, Paediatrics / Child Psychiatry (maternal and child speciality) or a related specialist area.

    They will also be a leader in scholarly and research achievements, and have an active programme of research in their area of expertise.

    To support this they will have an established track record of publication in peer reviewed international journals and a growing international reputation in their field.

    Evidence of external grant success, contributions to international meetings / societies, and end user community engagement is also expected.

    The successful applicant will have demonstrated evidence of effective supervision of Master's Thesis, PhD and possibly Postdoctoral students.
