About this role

Maritime New Zealand is the national regulatory, compliance and response agency that looks after the safety, security and environmental protection of coastal and inland waterways.

Our mission is to lead and support the maritime community to ensure our seas and waterways are safe, secure and clean - on behalf of all New Zealanders.

The regulatory policy and guidance design units work across the whole maritime transport system - including central government, local government, the commercial sector, industry organisations, NGO's and the recreational boating sector.

The policy unit's work involves the development of maritime and marine protection rules, and supporting transport instruments.

It also provides general maritime policy advice, and manages some statutory processes on behalf of Maritime NZ. The regulatory guidance unit provides targeted advice, information and guidance to help regulated entities understand how to manage their risks and support compliance with legislation.

This information is tailored to the needs of various users.

No day will be the same for the administrator, with your abundance of energy and drive you will be taking complete ownership of team administration duties.

You'll need to be a great communicator, be able to work independently and use your initiative. You will need to be comfortable working on a range of tasks and be prepared to learn new systems, processes and policies specific to Maritime NZ.

  • You will have great attention to detail and with a natural solutions focused attitude. You will also bring;
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills and confidence to pick up new systems and databases;
  • Previous experience working as a team administrator in a busy role;
  • Previous experience updating internal and / or external websites would be great;
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to forge strong relationships across a wide range of stakeholders;
  • Strong customer service focus with a 'can do' attitude;
  • Ability to self-direct, take the initiative and plan your own workload without supervision;
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable and stay calm under pressure; and
  • Assisting with financial accounts, travel bookings and general admin support across the team when required;
