Do you want to join a programme that connects your experience and knowledge to important policy being developed within the Ministry of Health?
The Ōkārito Programme aims to build a pipeline to develop Māori expertise and bring greater diversity of thought and lived Māori experience into the different policy areas within our directorate and Ministry.
Pou Rito will bring their strong understanding and background in kaupapa Māori, te ao Māori, and / or Te Tīriti o Waitangi and Te Reo Māori, and / or strong connections to iwi and Māori communities to contribute to more considered policy discussions.
In turn, Pou Rito will be provided a well-rounded foundation of skills and knowledge on how to develop policy for senior leadership and Ministers, as well as a greater understand of machinery of government, in a supportive kaupapa Māori programme environment.
We are looking for a wide-range of people to apply for this programme :
Pou Rito will experience (at minimum) two rotations with our policy teams, giving them sufficient opportunity to delve deep into particular policy areas.
Rotations will be flexible depending on Pou Rito interests and policy project opportunities. Potential policy areas include Family & Community Health, Health System Settings, Therapeutics and other teams within Manatū Hauora.
Each Pou Rito will be assigned a tuakana mentor for the duration of the programme to provide direct support and advice, to ensure they get the best experience from this programme and connect to Manatū whānau and manaaki.
The Chief Advisor Māori will provide overarching support to Pou Rito and the management of the Ōkārito programme.
