Approximately 1200 people will be moving across central Wellington office sites in 2020. In order to adequately prepare procurement, planning and user requirements, comprehensive data is needed to inform the project team.

Business groups will be engaged to illicit information from each of their teams, this will be leader led with assistance from the project team.

The data will be owned by the business groups. The data analyst must provide clarity regarding what data is needed, why it is needed and work to specific time-frames to create a data model / set to be able to provide reports, options and recommendations

You will take responsibility for managing the master data set, developing reports, and troubleshooting data issues.

To do well in this role you need a very fine eye for detail, experience as a data analyst, and deep understanding of data analysis tools and databases.

Data Analyst Responsibilities :

  • Is able to understand the project requirements and provides advice on how to capture and manage the data, provide data management framework, practices and model which the project will use to manage this function
  • Ensure that insights and information gained from data are available to inform the project with planning and strategic direction
  • Data is gathered and analysed from a range of sources to provide the foundation for evidence-based analysis
  • Data collected is turned into information and insights, which adds value for the project outcomes
  • Managing master data, including creation, updates, and deletion.
  • Provide quality assurance of imported data.
  • Commissioning and decommissioning of data sets.
  • Processing confidential data and information according to guidelines.
  • Managing and designing the reporting environment, including data sources, security, and metadata.
  • Supporting the data model / base in identifying and revising reporting requirements.
  • Supporting initiatives for data integrity and normalisation.
  • Generating reports from single or multiple systems.
  • Troubleshooting the reporting database environment and reports.
  • Providing technical expertise in data storage structures, data mining, and data cleansing.
  • Evaluates options and makes recommendations
  • Deliver the data reporting requirements ensuring :

  • Data is accurate and complete
  • Assumptions are clear and concise
  • Reports are easily digestible
  • Reports and processes are automated where possible to minimise manual handling and errors and are delivered on time
  • Data Analyst Requirements :

  • Work experience as a data analyst or in related field.
  • Ability to work with stakeholders to assess potential risks.
  • Ability to analyse existing tools and databases and provide software solution recommendations.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into non-technical, lay terms.
  • High-level experience in methodologies and processes for managing large scale databases.
  • Demonstrated experience in handling large data sets and relational databases.
  • Understanding of addressing and metadata standards.
  • High-level written and verbal communication skills.
