The Faculty of Science at the University of Auckland is the largest and most highly ranked science faculty in New Zealand.

The 10 departments and schools that form the Faculty represent the breadth and diversity of science in our modern world.

The Faculty is currently looking for a Research Equipment Planning and Management Lead who will be responsible for working across the Faculty to support strategic planning and acquisition of the equipment that underpins research and teaching activities.

This role will also be required to provide a Faculty overview of the full lifecycle asset management process and support planning and operational management of shared research equipment.


  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the strategic and annual plans for investment, asset management and effective operational management of specialist equipment supporting the Faculty of Science research and teaching.
  • Provide specialist advice and coordination for business case development for large purchases including financial modelling of cost recovery and operating model scenarios.
  • Co-ordinate collaboration of stakeholders and service divisions for successful acquisition, commissioning and operational establishment of large capex purchases.
  • Contribute to regular review and audit of all assets through a full lifecycle management process
  • Experience / Skills required

  • Bachelor’s degree, relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent gained experience.
  • Knowledge and application of best practices in project management, asset management, and procurement.
  • Working experience in Business Case development.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in working co-operatively across teams
  • Budget management and financial modelling
  • A technical or research background would be preferred
  • To be successful in this role you will need to be a self-starter with strong skills in relationship development and stakeholder engagement who is comfortable working within an ambiguous and complex environment.
