To deliver against a safety action plan and provide expert health and safety advice, by influencing others. Assist Methanex New Zealand in ensuring zero harm to people.

Position Responsibilities

  • Provide expert health and safety advice ensuring consistency with relevant legislation, standards, policies or guidance documents.
  • Ensure New Zealand facilities have comprehensive health and safety procedures by reviewing, maintaining and developing where relevant.
  • Also ensure human factor elements are incorporated into procedures and processes.

  • Integrate health and safety considerations into the planning process by working closely with Technical, Operations and Maintenance.
  • Participate in contractor prequalification assessments, performance reviews and review selection and management processes against health and safety guidelines for contractor management.
  • Manage the occupational health and safety internal audit programme in conjunction with the Senior Quality Advisor; coordinating schedules, providing meaningful data trends, conducting health and safety audits and improving on effectiveness where possible.
  • Maintain the hazard management register using a consultative process to ensure accuracy, effectiveness, and controls are reviewed against appropriate standards / advice.
  • Assist in maintaining the Methanex New Zealand incident management system to ensure a high degree of accuracy and integrity.
  • Conduct and participate in incident management investigations to monitor the quality of investigations and ensure relevant processes are completed as intended.
  • Manage health and safety training through developing schedules and ensuring quality and accuracy of robust processes and records.
  • Deliver actions as required on the safety action plan.
  • Manage and deliver on the occupational hygiene programme.
  • Provide risk expertise and advice to the business; assessing and managing risk as required to meet Responsible Care objectives.
  • Provide expert work safety control systems knowledge, focusing on the work front, audit process and continual improvement.
  • Lead the onboarding process for contractors from a health and safety perspective; facilitating contractor continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Position Qualifications

  • Tertiary degree or diploma in OSH preferred
  • Significant experience in a health and safety role (within the petrochemical industry preferred)
  • Formal training in health and safety auditing
  • Formal training in incident investigation (Taproot preferred)
  • Knowledge of relevant New Zealand legislation and best practice in health and safety
  • Experience in hazard identification, risk assessment and hazard control systems
  • Intermediate PC and Microsoft Office skills
  • Good public relations skills to interface with both internal and external customers
  • Strong planning and organisation skills
  • Strong report writing skills
  • Capacity to exercise sound judgement, initiative and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure, be flexible and adaptive
