Te Tūāpapa Kura Kāinga - Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is the Government's lead advisor on housing and urban development.

HUD delivers the Government's programme to address homelessness, increase public and private housing supply, make existing homes warmer and healthier, make housing affordable for people to rent and buy, and lead quality urban development strategies to create thriving communities.

About the role Mō te tūnga

The Ministerial Services Group is the key conduit between the Minister, HUD, and our leadership team. The group is responsible for the production of responses to Official Information requests, Written and Oral Parliamentary Questions, and Ministerial Correspondence.

This is a great opportunity for someone with previous management or mentoring experience to step up into a key leadership role.

With Housing being one the Government's key priorities, you'll be coming into a complex environment with a high level of public and political scrutiny.

This makes the identification, management, and escalation of risk a core element of the role.

About you Mōu

This is an opportunity to manage a busy team that is involved in the full continuum of the Ministry's Ministerial Serving requirements.

As the Ministerial Services Manager you will lead the team and be responsible for the Ministry's Ministerial Services systems, processes, quality control and timeliness.

The Ministerial Servicing Manager is responsible for :

  • Effectively influencing, and contributing to wider HUD, through building and maintaining enduring relationships with senior stakeholders, including SLT and Ministers Offices (including articulating and communicating the purpose of the team and its functions).
  • Building and enhancing the overall capability of the team to ensure quality and timely servicing of Ministers and their respective offices.
  • Maintaining a high-performing ministerial servicing team through good recruitment and performance management, and by developing and maintaining a culture of learning and development, safety and wellbeing within the team.
  • Leading the ministerial services function you will be

  • Focused on the continuous improvement of Ministerial Servicing, including Ministerial and CE Correspondence, Parliamentary Questions, Reports, Estimates / Annual Review Hearing processes, weekly Minister's reporting and Official Information Act requests across all of HUD;
  • Take a lead key role in managing risk to HUD, including the consistency of practice, ministerial meeting priorities, as well as information flows, and providing timely and efficient advice to the CE and SLT;
  • Oversee all internal systems and processes associated with the allocation, production, drafting, tracking and management of the Ministry's official correspondence, OIA, WPQ, Weekly Ministerial Reporting, and Estimates / Annual Review Hearing including business process improvements.
  • Lead, manage and develop the specialist technical expertise across the team to assess ministerial advice for relevance and accuracy.
  • Ensure business intelligence is gained from analysis and that this is shared as appropriate across business groups, thinking proactively about what this might tell us and recommendations for continuous improvement.
