  • About the Team

    The Gibson Day Unit is a day based service for Older Persons Mental Health, Community Psychiatric Nurses and Nurse Practitioners also support Older Persons' Mental Health Services in the community.

    The programme is for people aged over 65 years who have an array of mental health needs and is located off the foyer in Dunedin Hospital.

    About You

    You will be a dynamic registered nurse with a strong knowledge base being essential to meeting the challenge of working with older people in a mental health environment.

    You will need to have high standards of competence and performance while enjoy the challenge of working with patients in this unique and varied setting.

    We are seeking someone who is warm, empathetic, responsive and highly attuned to the emotions, needs and motivations of older people.

    About the Role

    Mental Health experience is essential for this role and the role involves being a case manager and providing group and individual work with clients.

    Home visits are done for initial assessments. The Gibson Day Unit is part of MHSOP and there could from time to time be the need to assist in Community Psychiatric Nurse (CPN) team or on Ward 6c.

    The day Unit works Mon-Fri 0800-1630. This role has set days Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

    You will be a Registered Nurse with a current New Zealand Annual Practicing Certificate. All applicants must have a Mental health scope of practice to allow for working within this sector - more information can be found at
