We have two great opportunities for future-focussed and high-performing Business Analysts to be part of our Business Improvement & Innovation team (BI&I).

About Business Improvement & Innovation BI&I sits within the Operations Group and contributes to the transformational change agenda of Operations by :

  • Placing our customers at the centre of everything we do and everything we design and implement
  • Alongside business owners, leading the initiatives that will change how we deliver the services that comprise our operation
  • Working with front line delivery to ensure we are designing services that continually smooth the experience for customers while simultaneously ensuring that we are detecting and deterring risk to our borders.
  • Mō tēnei tūranga mahi I About this role Our Business Analysts using their knowledge of business analysis and improvement methodologies, will lead or contribute to BI&I projects and initiatives.

    By providing high quality critical thinking about complex problems, you will provide robust analysis and report on improvements to be made to the Business Manager and Group Manager.

    You will make suggestions about innovative ways to enhance customer service, and operational delivery. The salary range for this position is $80-972 - $103,653 (competent is $93,905 per annum.

    Ko wai koe I About you As a Business Analyst, you will be a critical thinker who has the ability to consider the organisation's overall strategy and understands how business improvement that supports customer-centric service excellence fits into that strategy.

    Ideally you will be an experienced Business Analyst with familiarity in business requirements elicitation and analysis. You will be comfortable working in both business and technical domains to draw requirements and potential solutions and have excellent communication skills and experience to present these effectively to a range of audiences.

    Working both internally and externally to Customs, you'll thrive on building positive and productive relationships. Having a strong track record of experience to draw on, you'll be highly familiar with all the techniques and tools of your discipline and enjoy utilising them.

    You thrive on stakeholder engagement and bringing them on the journey with you so they understand what needs to be achieved and the outcomes that will be realised.

    Our ideal candidate will be armed with :

  • a tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience
  • experience successfully delivering business improvement or innovative solutions within a service delivery organisation, ideally within the public sector
  • strong written and verbal skills to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical audiences
  • highly developed research and data analysis skills
  • excellent technical skills in a range of software applications to ensure effective analysis and presentation of data and findings, at a minimum to include : Visio, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • experience planning, leading, and facilitating workshops to engage with end users
  • the ability to develop relationships with key stakeholders that will see you as a trusted adviser and someone who can add real value to their work.
  • evidenced commitment to continued development and sharing of expertise and knowledge
  • an extensive and sound understanding of business and service improvement techniques with the ability to effectively apply these to practical issues In addition, you will be able to work collaboratively and adaptably within the team, taking on a variety of tasks and working independently or taking a leadership role as required.
  • The team is based in Wellington but you will be required to travel to other parts of the country. Our team believe in continuous improvement and professional development which will also be a passion of yours in order to grow in this role.

  • In order to obtain this clearance you need to be a New Zealand Citizen or New Zealand Permanent Resident who has resided continuously in New Zealand for the last 5 years and resides in NZ at time of application;
  • OR a New Zealand Citizen or New Zealand Permanent Resident who has resided in New Zealand for the last 5 years and resides in NZ at time of application, but may have been absent from New Zealand for periods of six or more months within the past 5 years, preferably in one or more of the following countries : *either Australia, Canada, UK or the USA.

    Small periods (3 months or less) of absence from New Zealand over the 5 years may still be acceptable however you must be able to provide police certificates for time spent in other countries*.

    Due to the nature of Customs work you must have a clear Police record. Successful applicants are also required to pass a medical assessment and drug test.
