Te Kaunihera aa Takiwaa o Waikato (Waikato District Council) is not a 'typical local government' employer, we are on a journey to become exceptional, and we'd love for you to be part of that! Our vision is to build Liveable, Thriving, and Connected Communities as our district grows.
Who are we looking for
Are you a structured thinker and great communicator, with a passion for developing, analysing and presenting policy? We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced policy adviser to join our Corporate Planning team, on a two-year fixed-term basis, to tackle the review and development of a variety of internal and external Council policies.
This will entail coordinating and reporting on the overall policy review programme, by engaging with communities, working with subject-matter-experts across Council, and 'holding the pen' yourself on some policies.
You will work alongside four Corporate Planners who will be more focused on bylaw reviews, corporate planning and reporting.
We're looking for someone with demonstrated experience in policy analysis and development, great communication and co-ordination skills, and strong knowledge of the Local Government Act.
Your structured thinking will need to be combined with the ability to think laterally about future scenarios and a relevant tertiary qualification in public policy, social sciences or similar.
If you're looking for a focused opportunity to demonstrate your local government policy skills, and have a strong relationship and engagement focus, this is the role for you!
Why join our team
Our head office is based in north Waikato's Ngaruawahia, just 10 minutes from Hamilton. You've got the benefits of an easy commute, free parking, work-life balance and the chance to hit the Hakarimatas on your lunch break.
