PGG Wrightson Seeds New Zealand is part of the global DLF Group. Our Mt Stewart Seed and Grain and the Gillespies Line Grain site are a crucial part of our supply chain.

Thousands of tonnes of Seed products and Grain are moved through our warehouse and silo complexes. These sites service a wide range of customers across New Zealand who rely on our products for the success of their businesses.

Due to an internal promotion we are seeking a salaried Assistant Site Manager . Reporting to the Site Manager, this 2IC role is a busy and diverse position involved in all aspects of the site’s management and operation.

This is not a desk-based role and requires the person to be able to help in the site’s operations when required and also be available for extended hours during the Grain harvest season from the start of January through to the end of July.

This is located at our Mt Stewart site near Palmerston North / Feilding.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to :

Assisting with the day to day supervision, mentorship and management of a team that includes seasonal staff.

Maintaining a safe working environment through effective leadership and by committing to a safety culture

Organising and directing operations through efficient management of resources. This is especially critical during the Grain Harvest season.

Driving productivity improvements across the site as part of a continuous improvement agenda.

Assisting with product quality and inventory systems.

Rolling up your sleeves and helping when and where required.

Assume the responsibilities of the Site Manager when the Site Manager is on leave or not available (this may also include other Sites within NZ).

Preferred Skills & Experience :

Proven ability to engage, motivate and train staff and hold them to account for their performance and behaviours.

Experience as a 2IC, Team leader or Assistant Manager within Seed, Grain, Primary Industry, Agriculture, Manufacturing, or Logistics would be ideal.

Continuous drive towards processing and warehouse process improvement.

Strong interpersonal, communication and people management skills.

Proactive attitude and a positive and open mindset.

Intermediate level computer skills (Microsoft Suite).

A reasonable level of fitness and the ability to lift bags up to 25 kgs in weight.

Full drivers licence and the ability to travel to the semi-rural site locations.
