    In this permanent opportunity you will work within a small dedicated team and lead audits and investigations to verify compliance within the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS).

    In this fast moving regulatory / compliance environment you will be part of a national team interacting with a wide range of forest owners, from owners of small blocks to those with large corporate interests, no two days will be the same.

    You'll play a key role in guiding and mentoring others in the team.

    Core responsibilities for the role :

  • Carry out audits of forestry ETS participants' activities to ensure compliance with legislation and regulations
  • Interpret legislation and enforce administrative and criminal law
  • Utilise your analytical skills to assess the application of penalties and consideration of prosecution where non-compliance is identified
  • Analysis and identification of participants for audit
  • Leading high profile and complex investigations within the ETS
  • excellent communication of audit / investigation results
  • Provide guidance and support to other team members

    This unique permanent position requires that you will have a unique mix of skills. You will build and sustain positive working relationships with various stakeholders including landowners and forest owners and bring exceptional report writing and communication skills, a strong analytical mind with a keenness to problem solve and deliver.

    To be successful in this role, you will offer :

  • Experience / qualification within the ETS forestry sector
  • Compliance experience within public sector administrative penalties law
  • Proven ability to use strong analytical skills to undertake complex analysis and prepare associated documentation
  • Previous experience in in a regulatory and / or compliance environment as a investigator
  • Ability to plan and prioritise use of time, and manage workflows
  • Advanced MS Word and Excel skills
  • A valid New Zealand Drivers Licence and quad bike certification would be an advantage

    As part of Climate Change Operations, you will be part of a busy, fast paced team, working in a fun and collaborative environment implementing compliance within the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS).

    Te Uru Rākau - New Zealand Forest Service, a branch of the Ministry for Primary Industries, has delegated authority for administration of the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) for forestry.

    The ETS is New Zealand's main tool for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and reaching our climate change goals.

    The team is part of the Forestry and Land Management directorate. The directorate covers a wide range of forestry regulatory and operational responsibilities, with a focus on supporting sustainable land management, use of our forestry resources, and New Zealand's climate change responsibilities.

    Climate Change Operations, and this role, contribute to the ETS transformation project, a fundamental transformation of Te Uru Rākau - New Zealand Forest Service services to foresters who participate in the Emissions Trading Scheme.
