Kōrero mō te tūranga & Mō tō mātou rōpū - About the role and about our teamThe Fisheries Policy Team is responsible for leading the review and development of strategic policy that relates to New Zealand's fisheries and the ecosystems that support them.
  • The team engages with tangata whenua, industry, and other stakeholders to develop policy that delivers outcomes for New Zealand.

    We are leading on significant legislative changes to New Zealand's fisheries management system, focusing on sustainability and benefits to all New Zealanders.

    The team is also progressing work to achieve the recently announced ocean vision for Aotearoa and to ensure the long-term health and resilience of our ocean and coastal ecosystems.

    This is an opportunity to make your career as a thought leader. You will have autonomy to provide intellectual leadership on first principles policy development in one of New Zealand's key sectors, while supporting your colleagues to thrive.

    We are looking for someone who is :

  • Passionate about improving New Zealander's lives through policy;
  • Experienced in Government policy and processes, particularly regulatory and legislative development and design;
  • Driven to work with tangata whenua to ensure our policies meet our obligations under the Treaty and fisheries settlement
  • A thought-leader who can quickly distil information into relevant, narrative-rich recommendations;
  • Interested in developing staff by coaching and mentoring;
  • Good with people and has proven experience in developing and managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including senior leaders and peers;
