    Our Community Ministries centres around New Zealand provide individuals and families with social work, counselling, food, budgeting advice, life skills and parenting courses, and transitional housing.

    About the role

    The position involves working closely with clients who will come into The Salvation Army Centre in Tauranga. On a daily basis the role involves :

  • Providing a warm, welcoming and safe environment that upholds the mana of our clients;
  • Establishing an appropriate professional relationship with all clients reflective of Community Ministries model of care, best practice and client values;
  • The ability to work effectively with crisis and post-crisis individuals, couples and families often presenting with high complex needs and issues related to family / domestic violence, trauma, abuse, grief & loss, care and protection, family conflict, and parenting;
  • Upholding the Treaty of Waitangi;
  • 24 hours onsite per week including casework, meetings, training, Mondays to Fridays.
  • You will be a part of a dynamic, fun and supportive team providing much needed wrap around services. We pride ourselves on both our care of each other and of our community.

    Person Specification

    If the following describes you, then we would love to hear from you :

  • Hold relevant social service qualifications;
  • An understanding of the needs of people in the Tauranga Community and a strong desire to improve the social and economic wellbeing of these people;
  • The ability to work sensitively and appropriately from a cultural perspective;
  • Knowledge of up to date community services and assistance available, networking skills;
  • Research, communication and listening skills;
  • Skill in motivational interviewing and empowering people;
  • Knowledge of social and cultural issues;
  • The ability to relate to people from a diverse range of backgrounds;
  • Knowledge of self-care strategies;
  • Competent user of computer programmes and office equipment;
  • Experience using client database programmes, efficient in entering client notes;
  • Commitment to the aims of The Salvation Army;
  • The ability to work within a team;
  • Time and desk management skills to prioritize multiple tasks and keep track of work in progress and meet deadlines;
  • Satisfactory Police Vetting as per Vulnerable Children Act (VCA) 2014.
