Want to be involved in a farming community that challenges the status quo and supports its people to be the best they can be?

Ngāi Tahu Farming's kaupapa (purpose) is best represented by the Ngāi Tahu proverb 'Toitū te Marae o Tāne, Toitū te Marae o Tangaroa, Toitū te Iwi', 'when land and water are sustained the people will prosper'.

Our Orchard is located in Balmoral, North Canterbury and consists of a diverse mix of 5 apple varieties, berries, stone fruit and nuts.

The orchard is in the trial stage, with results to date being very positive, and we are looking for someone to take it to the next level of operation.

You will work with consultants and other industry experts to implement best horticultural practices on a daily basis. This is an exciting, challenging role for someone looking to grow their own experiences as well as produce.

We are looking for a talented and driven individual with :

  • Previous experience in a similar role, preferably a minimum of 5 years
  • A self-starting outlook, and ability to deliver whilst working autonomously
  • Growsafe certification, or willingness to put themselves through Growsafe certification
  • Knowledge of the whole value chain and an ability to execute
  • Understanding of food safety, market certification and quality requirements
  • Knowledge of how to grow and harvest produce
  • Sound knowledge of soil and nutrient management
  • Good administration skills
  • Familiarity with the Treaty of Waitangi and its application to the work of Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu.
  • An ability and willingness to learn and engage in te reo and tikanga Māori.
