The Faculty of Law at the University of Otago was established in 1873 as the first law school in New Zealand. The University of Otago is a research-intensive university with a long history of excellence and a leader in legal research within New Zealand.
The Law Faculty is situated in Dunedin, New Zealand’s renowned University city.
We are committed to working closely with iwi and Māori organisations and mātauraka Māori has become an integral part of teaching and research across the institution.
Our relationship with Ngāi Tahu as mana whenua within their takiwā of Te Waipounamu and, through this, as the University’s principal Treaty partner is especially important.
The role Te mahi
The Faculty of Law / Te Kaupeka Tātai Ture is committed to high quality legal education and scholarship and is seeking to make appointments to Lecturer or Senior Lecturer position(s).
The Faculty’s primary teaching needs are in the following areas, but exceptional candidates with proven research potential in other areas will also be carefully considered :

Successful candidates will have a postgraduate law degree or equivalent experience and publications. The Faculty particularly welcomes applications from Māori and Pasifika scholars.
