LIMS Technical Specialist(Laboratory Information Management System)

    The Team : What we do CanterburyHealth Laboratories (CHL) is a busy medical diagnostic facility providingservices to in-patients and outpatients at Canterbury DHB Hospitals withinChristchurch.

    You ll be working for the largest medical laboratory in the SouthIsland which is also a major secondary / tertiary referral centre with a variedand challenging case load.

    We have a modern and well-equipped labincluding a good range of specialist equipment.Specifically,the Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) team support the Laboratory InformationManagement System to manage each step of the process to provide qualitylaboratory results in a timely manner.

    The Role : Where you fit inThis roleis working as part of the LIS team providing hands-on and remote technicalsupport to the users of the Laboratory Information Management System.

    The roleis also responsible for system administration and monitoring as well as completingproject tasks.You will be responsible for :

  • Working with laboratory teams and vendors to provide technical support andtroubleshooting for the day to day operation of the LIMS and integratedanalysers
  • Providing technical information and support for the connectivity andinstallation of new analysers and systems
  • Performing system administration and monitoring
  • Scoping end user requirements and reviewing vendor specifications
  • Using best practice to manage and triage the implementation of tasksaround the Laboratory Information Systems and associated hardware, software andinfrastructure.
  • Providing timely communication with users / customers using clear conciselanguage
  • Collaborating with a project team to enhance and develop systems
  • Maintaining and updating configurations, scripts and administration proceduredocumentation We are looking for technical skills andexperience in most or all of these areas :
  • Integration using ASTM / HL7 protocols
  • RS232, TCP / IP connectivity
  • LINX, UNIX
  • Red hat administration and scripting, Oracle database,Microsoft Azure, Microsoft SQL
  • Domino / Lotus Notes (HCL Notes)
  • System administration and programming
  • Installation and configuration of hardware andsoftware applicationsSkills required :
  • 3-5 yrs experience in the IT industry including 1-2 yrs of second andthird level IT support
  • Certification in, for example, Azure and / or Microsoft windows would bedesirable
  • Technical knowledge of networks and switches
  • Technical knowledge and understanding of firewalls
  • High-level understanding of basic network architecture
  • Experience working in a large organisation and changing environments
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Sound technical writing / documentation skills
