We are currently seeking an Environmental Scientist who shares our vision of creating a thriving and sustainable region - now and for generations to come.

With a focus on the wetlands domain, you will utilise your critical thinking skills and ability to manage complex systems to explore unique and robust solutions for a range of complex issues.

This role requires an effective relationship-builder and savvy communicator who can effectively convey complex information to a range of audiences.

A willingness to mentor and assist with the development of junior staff is also important.

As Environmental Scientist - Wetlands you will enjoy a varied role with a high degree of interaction with others. You will take a proactive approach to developing and maintaining strong relationships with community groups to promote and advance our research, science and technology needs and will take a collaborative approach to your work.

The role will suit someone who is confident providing leadership and direction to project teams and external contractors, and providing accurate and timely advice where requested.

You will be an enthusiastic team member and an innovative problem-solver with the ability to plan and implement effective wetlands and terrestrial habitats science investigations, and further develop existing programmes with a focus on continued improvement.

Our ideal candidate will be motivated by the opportunity to contribute to positive environmental outcomes and will tick the following boxes :

  • Have a postgraduate qualification in ecology, environmental law, biological science or similar and proven experience;
  • Have strong computer skills and a good understanding of environmental database systems and analytical methods;
  • Possess a good understanding of resource management law;
  • Be familiar with Southland's biodiversity and ecosystems; and
  • Be organised with excellent time management skills and the ability to produce high quality, accurate work to deadline.

    An initial offer of remuneration will be made within the range $85,170 - $95,190.
