What opportunities are there?

Farmers is a "Kiwi" retail icon, firmly established and entrenched in NZ shopping culture for over 100 years. We are now the destination store of choice for many New Zealanders with literally millions of items moving through our stores every year.

This makes effective planning an interesting and critical role within our business. As a Merchandise Planner it will be your role to help maximize profitability through sound stock and price management, data analysis and reporting.

Working closely with the Buyers and stores, it will be your task to provide accurate and timely information so informed decisions can be made.

We have Merchandise Planners across all of our product categories :

  • Fashion - women's, men's, children's, infants, lingerie and sleepwear;
  • Children - toys and nursery;
  • Beauty - cosmetics, health & beauty, and fragrances;
  • Seasonal and accessories - sunglasses, giftware, Christmas, hosiery and accessories; and
  • Home - electronics, whiteware, furniture, manchester and tableware.
  • We often have opportunities for experienced planners or those with a relevant background who want to be trained. We will consider both local and international candidates.

    What is involved in being a Merchandise Planner?

    As a Farmers Planner, you'll be responsible for :

  • Analyzing and forecasting buying requirements up to a year in advance;
  • Providing the Buyer with financial planning and stock management advice;
  • Monitoring and analyzing sales and profit objectives;
  • Financial and sales reporting;
  • Determining retail and promotional prices;
  • Stock management; and
  • Developing merchandise plans and budgets.
  • The experience and skills you need :

  • At least two years merchandise planning or accounting / finance experience;
  • Experience within retail is an advantage;
  • Solid computer skills - MS Excel (int. / adv.) and SAP (an advantage)
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills; and
  • Excellent relationship building and communication skills.
