About the role

Reporting to the Manager, Compliance and Assurance in the Building System Assurance team you will work alongside a highly engaged and capable team of advisors and technical specialists to support the functions of the Compliance and Assurance team.

The role is wide in scope and will involve some travel. Your principal focus will be on the implementation of our new strategy and approach to enabling and ensuring the proper performance by building consent authorities and territorial authorities of their statutory and regulatory functions through monitoring, engagement, education, and also by addressing non-compliance.

The role will also include assisting the wider team with the implementation of proposed building law reform and other matters.

You will bring

  • Experience in applying the Building Act and associated Regulations
  • Knowledge and experience with regulatory processes
  • The ability to work collaboratively across groups or functions and manage effective relationships with stakeholders
  • The ability to articulate key points / messages in written format and verbally to both technical and non-technical audiences

    We are the stewards and the central regulator of New Zealand's building system. Our role is to work with sector stakeholders to deliver fit-for-purpose, future focussed building regulation that protects people's safety and property, promotes sustainability and strengthens the performance of the building industry.

    The Building System Assurance team is responsible for a range of building regulatory functions involving regulatory compliance, monitoring and assurance, and service delivery.

    These functions include monitoring of Building Consent Authorities and Territorial Authorities, building products assurance, oversight of CodeMark as the building product certification scheme, and assessment of MultiProof applications.

    Following our recent review, we have been putting into place a newly created group to implement our new strategy and help us achieve excellence as a regulator in the building system.

    Salary range for this role is between $68,009 - $81,213 with appointment to be within that range based on relevant skills and experience.
