YMCA seek reliable carers for before and after school care, options to work Monday Friday 7.00am to 8.30am, and school holidays


Do you enjoy working with children - join YMCA OSCAR (Out of School Care Programme).

We provide safe, quality care for children, outside of school hours and have two current vacancies.

This is a casual role with rostered work covering Monday Friday 7.00am to 8.30am and 2.45pm to 6.00pm and for our school holiday programmes Monday Friday 7.

00am to 6.00pm. Your time will be spent working at Lynmore School and other schools in Rotorua.

What will you be doing?

  • Providing interesting, safe and fun learning activities for school children of all ages
  • Be responsible for signing children in and out of the after school or holiday programmes
  • Ensuring all children on your roster are accounted for and following up on any that have not turned up
  • Ensuring children are collected by authorised persons, parents or guardians
  • Follow up making calls to parents / guardians if they are late collecting children
  • Providing high standards and a professional service for children, parents and associated schools
  • Ensuring your documentation / record keeping is correct and following YMCA process
  • Working as part of a team but also on your own
  • Specific job and safeguarding training with opportunities for continuous improvement.

  • What experience / skills do you need?

  • An awareness of safety around children
  • Personable approachable nature, someone who enjoys working with children
  • Experience working with children e.g. coaching, childcare, babysitting an advantage
  • Excellent communication skills, actively listens, draws out information and checks parent / childs understanding of what’s been discussed
  • Expresses ideas and information effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • High work standards, pays attention to detail and initiates self-checking procedures, ensures high levels of accuracy and consistency.
  • General computer skills, ability to use a tablet
  • Credibility and professional integrity, act and dress in a manner that conveys high personal and professional standards, while engaging with colleagues, parents and children.
  • Current first aid certificate an advantage
  • Drivers licence and dependable transport to get to work
  • Flexibility to pick up various shifts and ability to be early to work, never late.

    YMCA North is committed to Child Protection and the safeguarding of children and young people in our care and it is our expectation that all staff will operate in a way that reflects this intent.

    Staff will be required to attend Safeguarding workshops, trainings and online modules to comply with YMCA North Safeguarding Policy.

    The successful applicant will need to return a satisfactory Police Record Check before commencement of Employment.
