  • We need to be fit for purpose' across everything we do.The position of Head of the Office of the DCE supports the DCE Ngā Pou o te Taumaru and the Ngā Pou o te Taumaru Leadership Team (LT), providing high quality and impartial strategic, business and organisation development advice and support services to ensure the effective functioning of the group.

    This role is also responsible for the development of the overarching Strategic Plan, Stakeholder and Business Plan for Ngā Pou o te Taumaru in alignment to MBIE's organisational strategy.

    Tēnei tūranga - About the roleReporting to the DCE Ngā Pou o te Taumaru this is a senior strategic and people leadership role offering significant influence over the functioning of Ngā Pou o te Taumaru group.

    Working alongside the DCE and acting as their personal representative / delegate, you will provide insight and assurance, exercise judgment and offer advice that complements and supports the DCE in their leadership role.

    This will range from dealing with critical issues as they arise to ensuring MBIE's corporate responsibilities and obligations are delivered in a timely way and meet all quality standards.

    Working closely with General Managers and Business Partners across MBIE, you will lead work with an organisational and system wide lens to identify and define opportunities, and develop and implement solutions to enable the group to be more effective and efficient.

    You will also work closely with other parts of MBIE and leverage connections across Government to lead and contribute to projects and MBIE wide initiatives and interests.

    You will be a confident and influential communicator, with the ability to make connections across the wider MBIE business groups and public sector, providing a strategic liaison point and sounding board to the senior leaders that is key in ensuring the successful delivery of MBIE's strategic programmes.

    This highly influential role requires an authentic and credible approach. Skills and experience : The role requires an individual with extensive experience in strategic management and leadership within a large and complex organisation.

    In order to be successful in the role you will need to demonstrate the following :

  • Proven experience and achievement providing high quality strategic and operational advice to Senior stakeholders in a large complex organisation
  • Knowledge of business improvement and organisational effectiveness models with success in delivering organisation-wide, system level thinking to increase organisational effectiveness
  • Proven record of managing multiple projects running simultaneously with the ability to prioritise and deliver quality work under tight time constraints
  • Proven leadership and people management experience with outstanding relationship management skills and the ability to lead through influence at a senior level
  • Political nous with an understanding of the machinery of government and sound knowledge of the Government's direction, policy priorities, planning and budgeting processes.
  • Understanding of and experience with Ministerial Services functions
