Senior Advisor Copyright and Licensing calling an IP expert Interesting and innovative work protecting standards content and enabling new ways to access standards Fixed term opportunity based in our Wellington CBD location 15 months Flexible fun environment with work life balance being part of a specialist team A unique opportunity exists to join the Standards New Zealand team as Senior Advisor Copyright and Licensing Standards New Zealand SNZ is New Zealands leading developer of standards and standardsbased solutions Our role includes standards development international participation and providing access to hundreds of standards that benefit New Zealand In New Zealand standards are used to protect people and our environment and to increase productivity and drive innovation They aim to ensure safety consistency and reliability and cover a variety of subjects such as building and construction energy water utilities health environment information technology and more We currently have an exciting opportunity to join our Commercial and Sectors team as Senior Advisor Copyright and Licensing to support the Standards Manager to deliver their statutory function to ensure the exercise and performance of Crown rights and obligations in respect of standards What you will be doing Reporting to the Commercial and Sectors Lead this role is responsible for providing strategic value through effectively working with the wider team on new product development and managing any IP risks This involves looking for innovative ways to license content and think about how IP can work for us to enable access to standards Key responsibilities include Facilitating and managing enquiries for access to the intellectual property held by the New Zealand Crown in New Zealand Standards and in standards developed by other standards organisations with which New Zealand has a copyright agreement Licensing third parties to copy or use the standards documents in whole or in part under copyright licence agreements CLA Collecting fees for access and use and undertaking timely reviews to ensure copyright terms and conditions cease as specified Updating and amending existing licensing agreements as required Supporting copyright agreements with the other national and international standards bodies Understanding the terms and conditions of use of all international contracts and regularly educate the Standards New Zealand team to enable them to perform their roles effectively Building and maintaining effective relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders Ideally you will have a range of skills that will include Sound knowledge and demonstrated application of the Copyright Act 1994 Demonstrated expertise and experience in handling complex matters relating to intellectual property Crown copyright monitoring compliance and dealing with noncompliance including by prosecution Demonstrated competence at working with international organisations and related obligations would be useful Demonstrated ability to quickly assimilate new information and areas of work Good communication skills able to share knowledge clearly and work well in a team environment Knowledge of and experience with intellectual property law Knowledge of the use of standards or similar codified information or instruments would be useful Requires a law degree ideally with a significant component of intellectual property law To apply for this position please click the Apply Now button This will allow you read the position description complete the application form and submit your CV and cover letter For further information please contact Monica Chow at monica chow2 mbie govt nz quoting reference number MBIE 1439830 Applications close at 5 00pm on Wednesday 31st January 2020
