Deputy General Counsel AucklandThe SFO is a highly specialised government department responsible for the investigation and prosecution of serious or complex financial crime including bribery and corruption.
We take pride in the work we do to keep New Zealand safe from financial crime.The SFO seeks an accomplished solicitor or barrister who is admitted to practice or eligible for admission, with eight or more years PQE, to join our Auckland team as Deputy General Counsel.
Reporting to our General Counsel, who is also a Deputy Chief Executive, you will lead a small team consisting of legal professionals and oversee SFO cases once they become prosecutions.
You will ensure the SFO complies with legislative requirements and manage the relationship with our Prosecution Panel, contribute to our responses to wider government policy, initiatives and consultations.
You will also work with the General Counsel to ensure our legal reporting responsibilities and governance requirements are met.
As a member of our Senior Leadership Team you will share responsibility for delivery of the SFO's strategic priorities and engage with external stakeholders.
To be successful in this role you will have proven ability to provide robust independent strategic, operational and technical legal advice in the areas of criminal law and the law of criminal investigation, and clearly understand the powers available to the SFO and the law relating to the conduct of prosecutions.
Previous exposure to the prosecution of financial crime is preferred. Importantly, you have demonstrated success as a people leader, providing technical mentoring to enhance knowledge and competency as well as providing appropriate and optimal duty of care.
