Our recently established Policy Implementation and Delivery (PID) Group within MfE is to enable policy into action on the ground.
Our key focus is on working with Māori / Iwi, Local government, industry partners and others to identify outcomes, bring together diversity of thinking and different perspectives to find solutions.
We're calling out for Senior Analysts to join our Nutrient Management Tools Team and support its ambitious work programme, stemming from the Government's response to the Overseer Review.
Overseer is a software programme that assists farmers with nutrient decisions. In late 2018 the Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment outlined steps that should be taken for the Overseer nutrient management model to be used confidently in regulation.
As part of the Government's response, MfE agreed to put in place a new tool to measure N-loss on farms, investigate greater use of controls on practices and inputs to manage nitrogen leaching, and explore new approaches to managing diffuse nutrient loss risk.
We have multiple fixed-term opportunities that play integral parts in the development and roll-out of the Risk Index Tool (RIT), and investigation of nitrogen leaching practices and new approaches to managing nutrient loss.
Fixed-term Wellington-based role through to 31 Jan 2024 :
Your core focus areas in this role will be to manage the RIT workstream as Phase One goes into the final design stage and production.
This role calls for particular skills and experience in project management to successfully deliver Phase Two of the RIT, as well as excellent stakeholder relationship skills and the ability to confidently discuss the RIT with iwi / hapū, regional councils and other key stakeholders.
Your science background will enable you to understand and draw on Science Working Group concepts and requirements during final stages of Phase One development and implementation, and carry lessons learned into Phase Two.
Fixed-term opening (covering leave) through to June 2024 - location flexible :
Your core focus area will be to foster and strengthen ongoing stakeholder engagement and collaboration with tangata whenua, acting as their key point of contact throughout this project.
You'll have a lead role in coordinating engagement hui, managing contracts, and bringing to life your superior writing skills to capture and summarise the outcomes of all engagements for briefings to executive Ministry leaders.
Your knowledge and capability in te ao Māori, and ability to navigate between the two worlds' whilst ensuring the mana of our engagement partners is upheld, will be integral to the projects success.
Fixed-term opening (covering parental leave) through to July 2023 - location flexible :
Your core focus area will be in leading literature research and strategic policy advisory on the effectiveness and use of the tool, applying your strong critical thinking capability to understand on the ground' aspects and look for new approaches and better ways to manage soil nutrients on farms.
You'll bring superior writing skills to this role to write and review high-quality policy advice that will contribute to building the tool.
Regional council experience and / or experience with Overseer is highly desirable and will enable you to hit the ground running.

Salary range for this role is from $101,802 up to $124,424 pa. Appointment within this range will be based on skills and experience.
