MidCentral District Health Board has an exciting opportunity for an experienced occupational therapist, working in our Older Peoples Assessment & Liaison Service (OPAL), based within the Occupational Therapy Team at Palmerston North Hospital.

This is a full-time permanent position. Applications will be considered from those who are looking for less than full time hours.

Primary responsibilities are providing quality occupational therapy services within a comprehensive multi-disciplinary team, to meets the needs of older persons with frailty in a dedicated inpatient unit.

The OPAL unit also supports older adults who are experiencing delirium. We are looking for an occupational therapist who is :

  • Enthusiastic, energetic, resilient, with a can do’ attitude
  • Has the ability to work effectively within a team
  • Has experience working with older adults
  • Strong desire to help clients and whānau achieve their goals
  • Effective written, oral and interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate with people from a wide variety of backgrounds and cultures
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • New Zealand registered Occupational Therapist, with a current practicing certificate
  • Holds Enable NZ Accredited Assessor status, be Service Accredited or eligible to become accredited with appropriate training
  • A full, current, driver’s licence is essential
  • Holds relevant residency status to work in New Zealand.

    General Information

    MidCentral District Health Board employs more than 2500 staff at Manawatu, Palmerston North, Tararua and Horowhenua and Otaki districts.

    Palmerston North Hospital is a 350 bed secondary hospital, which services an urban population of 80,000 and a total population catchment of 168,000.

    In addition, the hospital is a teaching hospital, and is associated with both Auckland and Otago medical schools.

    Palmerston North is a major university city and is at the hub of key routes to the central North Island ski fields, and river adventures.

    Wellington the capital city, is only a two hour journey by road, as are the wine growing regions of Hawke's Bay and Wairarapa.
