The Organisation

The Timaru District Council aims to enable democratic local decision-making and action by, and on behalf of communities, to promote the social, economic, environmental, and cultural well-being of its communities in the present and for the future.

With around 400 staff, there are a diverse range of roles from front facing community to support and technical specialists.

The Role / Person

Timaru District Council is looking for a passionate town planner wanting to enhance their career and make a defining move - lead from the front!

Working as the District Planning Manager will put you at the forefront of Council’s RMA functions and the ongoing development of our amazing district.

We need someone who can :

  • Coach, mentor and develop a team of high performing planning professionals
  • Foster a culture of high performance and lead the delivery of amazing service
  • Deliver a responsive customer focused service
  • You will be future focused and committed to delivering enduring solutions for our growing community. Drive business excellence and deliver a seamless District Plan Review.

    This management role guarantees diversity; collaborate with stakeholders and work on various urban and rural development, industrial expansions and projects in significant natural areas and outstanding landscapes.

    With the recommend major changes to NZ’s resource management legislative framework, we need an individual with a strong voice and the ability to influence change.

    By way of background, you will have 10 years’ experience in Resource Management and hold a degree in Planning. This is a tier 3 leadership position reporting directly to the Group Manager Environmental Services so bonus points if you have experience in a position of management.
