About the Role

The role is to provide legal advice and support across a broad range of legal issues affecting the Department.

We are looking for a positive personality, who can remain focused and work well under pressure. We work collegially so participation in our team is welcomed.

Required :

  • Current or eligible for NZ practising certificate.
  • At least +4 years experience in legal areas relevant to the Department.
  • An understanding of the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi and Section 4 of the Conservation Act and the application of the principles in the context of DOC's work and relevant case law.
  • An interest in conservation.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain practical legal advice in a non-technical manner.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to adapt as the role's requirements evolve.

    Invercargill is a vibrant city with fantastic opportunities for recreation such as walking, mountain biking etc. The Invercargill office currently includes 1 staff member from the legal services team and more than 30 staff from a wide variety of DOC teams.

    Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory this includes holding a valid work visa that covers the whole period of employment.
