The Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu nomination and appointment process is being undertaken to appoint a Te Waipounamu / Rēkohu Region representative to the Tūhono Trust.

Functions of the Tūhono Trust

The Trust was constituted in 2003 based on a widespread consensus of the need for proactive initiatives to :

  • assist iwi organisations to develop and maintain robust registers of their people;
  • to help Māori confirm and maintain their links to their iwi organisations;
  • promote linkages and widespread participation by Māori in the business of their whānau, hapū and iwi.
  • Purpose of the role

    The purpose of this role is to represent the Ngāi Tahu perspective to the Tūhono Trust ensuring that any issues of tribal significance are reported to Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu while also ensuring that tribal matters of significance are represented to the Trust.

    Required skills, experience and qualifications

    The Trust maintains a high standard of strategic governance, therefore, the candidate must have the confidence and trust of their people, with a strong commitment to the vision, kaupapa and goals of Tūhono, and extend the calibre of the Trust through experience, skills, capabilities, knowledge and networks in either of the following skill types :

  • a strong commercial background with particular skills in finance and investment, venture capital and indigenous / international business;
  • experience in business management with strengths in entrepreneurship, operating and senior executive level and policy analysis;
  • adequate professional skills in legal, valuation or engineering;
  • a good understanding of the relevant aspects of the Electoral and Privacy legislation;
  • Māori political structures, including governance and the relative importance and functions of iwi, hapū and whānau;

  • Meeting details

  • Average meetings - Four to six times per year.
  • Hamilton / Auckland / Rotorua / Online
  • Attendance fees are paid at a current rate of $125 / hour gross (all fees paid by the Trust plus reimbursement of any expenses).
