This role is in the Design and Engagement Team which is part of the Field Collections business unit within Collection Operations.
You will focus on helping design and create the future of social survey data collection. The future is being shaped by changes to survey design, collection systems and tools, and how we can best interact with households to ensure their willingness to respond to our surveys.
Analysis of operational data to help understand the data collections world better than we ever have will also help inform our future processes and the way we work.
Your day to day will see you doing the following :
Contributing to initiatives that add value and advance data discovery, sourcing and sustainable collection
Extracting data and developing Excel templates, SAS, SQL or R programs for ad hoc analysis or to monitor operational performance
Provide advanced analysis and research into survey collections para data
Exploring options and contributing towards the future collection design
Writing of papers and reports that will assist with key decisions for the Field Collections business unit and the way that we work
Liaise and build relationships across the Collection Operations management and operational teams and other areas of Stats NZ
Starting salary : $75,000 - $85,000 negotiable, dependent on skills and experience.

To be successful in this role, you will be able to demonstrate a range of expertise across the following :
A minimum of 2 years' experience in a similar work environment
Advanced technical, research and analytical skills
Advanced Excel, SAS, SQL or R programming
Data and cost modelling
Relevant experience using large datasets and machine learning would be an advantage
In-depth knowledge of data collection and able to offer real insight for its advancement
Ability to investigate, design and document new and existing business processes and tools
Excellent written and verbal communication with the ability to communicate technical information effectively with a wide range of people.
Fantastic interpersonal skills and the ability to interact and maintain strong relationships across all levels within the organisation
High level of accuracy and attention to detail
A self-starter with the ability to hit the ground running
Knowledge / familiarity or a commitment to learn / understand Te Ao Maori, including ensuring opportunities at Stats NZ reach the Maori community.
