About the role

The primary role of the Project Accountant is to provide financial support to various project managers relating to financial advice, support and analysis around the strategic project initiatives, by maintaining financial records, forecasting and modelling related to each.

The Project Accountant will build strong working relationships with the project managers to ensure that project costs are incurred in accordance with the existing service level agreement, and that appropriate costs are assigned to projects.

Financial representation and input into large / strategic projects will be required. Further, the Project Accountant will provide forecast data on a monthly basis in line with project completion rates and for capex management and cashflow purposes.

Responsibilities include :

  • Monthly reporting of the costs and any applicable invoicing to recover these costs
  • Working with Project Managers to provide actionable insights, advice and analysis on their project reports
  • Supporting the Manager Strategic Finance and the wider leadership team as required
  • Preparing the monthly financial reports giving guidance around future trends on performance and potential impacts
  • To be successful in this role you will have :

  • A Tertiary qualification in relevant degree and CA qualification is desirable
  • Advanced spread sheeting with the ability to present complex data to a target audience
  • At least three years’ relevant accounting and / or audit experience
  • Demonstrated communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to clearly communicate technical information in plain language both written and verbally
  • Experience with report writing and various accounting systems
  • Past experience of analysing data and collaborating information with the ability to make connections between various aspects of the Ministry
  • A proactive approach to identifying problems while finding focused solutions
