Are you someone who loves the outdoors, has lots of practical skills and enjoys working with people? If yes, then this is the job for you!

As a Hut Warden you will be joining our talented delivery teams carrying out critical conservation work on the Routeburn, Greenstone-Caples and Rees-Dart tracks.

He angitūtanga : About the Role

Your role is broad and involves working alone and with others on all manner of conservation projects including :

  • backcountry track, hut and campground maintenance
  • interpretation and information services to trampers
  • threatened species management
  • visitor and historic asset management
  • enforce laws and regulations
  • This position works on a roster system and applicants must be available to complete the full period of employment between October 19, 2020 to May 4, 2021 .

    You will also be required to work on weekends and / or statutory holidays and to wear a DOC uniform as per the uniform policy.

    We are looking for a fit, responsible and reliable team player, with an aptitude for outdoor pursuits, and who has the following skills :

    Required Skills

  • knowledge and / or experience in field delivery work
  • experience in facilities and track maintenance
  • strong communication and time management skills
  • problem solving and organisational skills
  • Preferred Skills

  • a good basic knowledge and interest in conservation
  • a current First Aid certificate
  • a valid driver's license

    Should you be the successful applicant for this position, you will be required to undertake a Children's Worker Safety Check before you can start the role.

    Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory this includes holding a valid work visa that covers the whole period of employment.
