This is a full-time permanent position.

He angitūtanga : The opportunity

We have a rare opportunity for an experienced Planner to take their policy expertise to the next level in this engaging and varied role.

Joining our team of experts within the Plans and Places department, as a Senior Policy Planner you’ll drive region-wide resource management policy.

Heading towards plan review time, this role will include plan evaluation and solution finding.

Partnering with a range of internal and external stakeholders, you will support the development of area spatial planning and place making for specific locations within the region and make and lead the development of public plan changes, processing of private plan changes, variations, notices of requirement and appeals and providing policy advice for resource consents.

He kōrero mōu : About you

With a passion for planning policy, you’ll bring with you :

  • a degree qualification or higher and at least seven years’ experience in policy planning and resource management
  • a robust understanding of the Resource Management Act
  • prior experience processing plan changes (whether urban or rural, or in a private or public environment) and notices of requirement
  • an understanding of the Council’s responsibilities under Te Tiriti o Waitangi and some knowledge of te ao Māori
  • an understanding of the need for good financial management of the planning projects you might lead or otherwise a willingness to learn.
  • As this role might require you to travel around the region using Council vehicles, you’ll ideally hold a valid New Zealand driver’s license.
