We are looking for an Head of IT Operations who thrives when collaborating with other leaders, wants to inspire and lead a high energy crew, wants to wow their customers, knows how to listen, builds amazing relationships across an organisation and can provide security and confidence in an emergency under pressure.
Environment Canterbury operate a large technical environment across numerous locations and servicing a variety of diverse customers, from Passenger Transport to Civil Defence.
You’ll have experience leading teams and supporting customers across a broad enterprise including Infrastructure, Network, Desktop, Mobile, and Custom software.
Experience in practices for an Agile environment would be greatly valued. You'll work with our delivery and chapter leads to provide the best possible services to our customers from public to the councilors themselves.

WAN including Radio and IoT
Office environments, mobile, desktop, video conferencing, call center, broadcast council meetings, meeting spaces
Azure dominant but including aspects of AWS and Google Cloud
Microsoft 365 for Enterprise including D365
Emergency operations center 24 / 7, high availability infrastructure
Public transport bus operations
Snowflake, Synapse and SQL Server data services

Here's a bit about what you'll do in this role :
Lead our IT Operations teams and influence practices, standards, and policy for our operations stack.
Actively participate as a member of our Digital leadership team.
Collaborate with other leaders in the Technology team.
Foster an inclusive environment and actively promote diverse thought amongst the wider team.
Lead our foundations pipeline building the infrastructural platforms to support ECan's work in water, biodiversity, land, air, public transport and much more.

You can balance the needs of the business with the needs of our teams in ensuring we are always focusing on the right things
You've got deep experience in a broad range of technology builds and architectures. Ideally with solid experience in cloud, network, security, enterprise tools such as CRM, Finance, and software architectures
You're a strong advocate for quality, observability and continuous improvement

Proven experience in leading IT operations including helpdesk, infrastructure and complex business technology needs
Proven experience across a wide breadth of technologies and operations models
Excellent leadership skills with a focus on being a learning organisation and adaptability
Knowledge of Microsoft enterprise services and licencing, such as Azure and Dynamix

Environment Canterbury is responsible for managing the Canterbury Region’s natural resources the air, soil, water and the effects of land use on the environment.
We have around 850 staff across Canterbury.
