    About our group and team

The Special Projects team is currently implementing two high profile projects for the Ministry of Education : Ka Ora, Ka Ako healthy school lunches programme and Ikura manaakitia te whare tangata that provides access to period products in schools.

This work is already proving to have a significant impact for our ākonga. We have taken a regionally-led, nationally supported approach to implementing the programmes to emphasise community partnerships, work flexibly and be able to offer local solutions.

The team consists of around 25 regionally based staff who manage relationships with schools, kura and suppliers, with a support team that include Nutritionists, Programme Coordinators, Senior Advisors and other support functions.

  • Support schools, kura and suppliers to apply the guidelines as they develop and implement the provision of lunches
  • Work with regional Senior Advisors to implement the monitoring programme to ensure suppliers (and internal model schools and kura) are meeting the healthy food guidelines
  • About you

You will have a relevant qualification as a nutritionist (or Dietician) and you will have a significant level of practical experience.

  • Knowledge of working in schools and kura
  • Understanding of the machinery of government
  • Are you ready to make a difference?

We welcome candidates from diverse backgrounds, including Māori, Pacific and those with disabilities, who will enrich our understanding of the education system.

As a government agency, the Ministry is committed to keeping to the Treaty of Waitangi’s guiding principles in our work for and with Māori students, their whānau, hapū and iwi.

Please note that this role is affected by the COVID-19 Public Health (Vaccinations) Order.
