Job specific information

These positions work alongside children with disabilities and their families, to create a fun, positive, homely environment to nurture children’s needs on short breaks away from home and are based at a facility in Hamilton.

The support provided will foster positive relationships between families, and those using the service, other CCS Disability Action staff and ensure a friendly and flexible service which meets the needs of those who use the service.

Applicants should have :

  • Ability to relate to people with disabilities in a positive affirming manner
  • Empathy with disabled people and their family or whanāu
  • Strong communication and relationship building skills
  • Demonstrate commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the UN Convention of the Rights of Disabled People
  • Committed to ensuring child protection, aware of potential risks and dangers to children / young people, particularly those with high and complex physical needs and / or a medical fragility
  • Experienced in providing a high level of personal / intimate assistance to children / young people (or the willingness and ability to learn such procedures)
  • Clean driver’s licence or access to transport
  • Holder of relevant First Aid certification (or the willingness and ability to obtain it)
  • Careerforce, up to and including Level 2 training or equivalent (or prepared to take on Careerforce training to achieve this level)
  • Have the capacity to work within a roster covering seven days a week, 24 hours a day and 365 days of the year.
