About the role
The Senior Analyst (Kaitātari Matua) develops and implements policy and contributes to related Ministry for the Environment (MfE) processes, to meet the agreed outcomes.
The role operates within the context of defined policy development or policy delivery programmes, and in close collaboration with all colleagues across the Ministry.
It needs to comply with Ministry policies, procedures and (quality) guidelines.
Lead Engagement with Māori for purposes of policy development, ensuring inclusion of te ao Māori in all your work
Contribute to ministerial services, including responses to correspondence, information requests and parliamentary questions, in cooperation with the Ministerial Services Team
Undertake data collection, research, surveys, investigations and data analysis and draft related reports, utilizing a range of internal and external resources
Contribute to the administration of statutory obligations and commitments, including implementation, monitoring, evaluation, reporting and reviewing of specific policy recommendations, programmes, and statutes, in cooperation with relevant internal stakeholders.

Cultural capability and capacity in te ao Māori, tikanga Māori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi
Proven experience working with Māori partners and stakeholders
Proven experience in managing the implementation of complex projects and programmes, managing risks and business analysis.
Understanding and experience with machinery of government processes, systems and tools
An ability to set priorities and to achieve deadlines and project and programme outputs.
Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively (both written and verbal), at all levels across government and public and private sector
Likely to have an academic qualification in policy, economics, science, or project management
Confidence and capability to facilitate group sessions with customers / users and giving presentations.
Demonstrates sound judgement and experience of core / key policy process, procedures, and deliverables
Experience leading multiple large scale or complex policy projects
