POP is looking for a Vegan Head Chef to lead the charge on their upcoming menu change!

POP on Willis Street in the heart of the CBD is going on a new culinary adventure. POP’s menu will be converting from a Cuban inspired menu to a plant based menu so we need a Head Chef who is going to help us nail POP’s next culinary chapter.

Although POP’s menu will be changing, the popular Bottomless Brunch and awesome tap cocktails will be staying put for our loyal customer base.

We need a Head Chef who can hit the ground running, lead an energetic team and continue to smash our customers expectations out of the park!

The Wellington Hospitality Group owns and operates POP as well as over 30 bars and restaurants around the Wellington CBD, surrounding suburbs and most recently expanding into Hamilton and Tauranga.

For this role, you will champion delivering a consistently great service, be a team player, maintain composure in a busy environment while successfully multi-tasking the delivery of customer expectations, training and development of your team as well as be able to drive and grow POP’s vegan venture.

Key Requirements of the Role :

  • 5+ years of experience in the cheffing field
  • A wealth of knowledge in plant based cuisine in addition to experience working with functional ingredients such as modified and native starches and hydrocolloids
  • Knowledge of fermentation, cooking plant based foods under different PH conditions
  • An astute awareness of dietary requirements in keeping with modern dining trends
  • Being able to adapt to dietary requirements
  • The ability to be versatile under strict time constraints to uphold the pre-existing level of service in the kitchen
  • Experience of product property maximization to eliminate waste
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the seasonality of plant based ingredients in New Zealand
  • Exceptional culinary skills with a passion for pushing the boundaries
  • Proven leadership and communication skills managing small or large teams
  • Ability to empower team by passing on culinary knowledge and experience
  • Willingness to be hands on during key service times weekends and evenings included
  • Ability to follow and execute Food Safety plan and follow company procedures
