    The Data & Insights Directorate in our Policy Partnerships Puni have important mahi to progress and we are establishing a new Data Management team to provide product leadership of the technical data and analytics capability for Te Puni Kōkiri.

    As Manager Data Management, you will assist the Director, Data & Insights, and Policy Partnership Deputy Secretary, in the development of a multi-year work programme to lift the data and analytics capability across the enterprise and take Te Puni Kōkiri to a more mature state of data management.

    The work programme will ensure robust data management that enables the Ministry and wider stakeholders to make decisions informed by data.

    You will lead the ongoing development and management of our cloud-based data platform which has been developed jointly with the Social Wellbeing Agency.

    Importantly you will work build strong cross organisation partnerships to meet the different Puni data goals. You will work closely to influence and inform approaches that ensures robust data shapes and guides mahi that leads to effective outcomes for whānau, hapū and iwi.

    You are ambitious with a reputation for operating autonomously, considering the wider strategic value of processes and work programmes, and providing insights as you lead your team to achieve success.

    As the successful candidate you will have :

  • A tertiary degree in data science or research-related disciplines or similar field, or significant experience in a data / knowledge management role within the Public Service Sector.
  • Demonstrated experience and success in developing and implementing a range of data management initiatives within a client focussed environment
  • Clear understanding of Data Science ethics in government environments.
  • Technical or analytical skills and the ability to communicate with Senior Managers and to translate business requirements into technical outputs which are easily consumed
  • Ability to translate business needs and customer problems into analytical and research solutions.
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge of current and emerging technology including Cloud Data Platforms, and Analytics tools including Power BI
  • Familiarity with data toolsets : SQL, Python, R, SAS.
  • A good understanding of Māori data governance and sovereignty
  • A relational driven approach, with proven ability to build strong relationships that support a consultative approach
  • Most importantly you are excited by a role where you will be in at the start and keen to utilise your well-developed leadership skills to build and establish the team.

    The appointment range for this role is $146,054 - $200,824 per annum.
