This is a full time permanent (civ) position What you will doAs a Senior Project Manager (Navy) you will be responsible for overseeing the progress of agreed Navy special projects and programmes from initiation through to implementation and benefits delivery.

  • Additionally, you be responsible for : Reviewing, scheduling and reprioritising project resources as required; Briefing senior leaders on emergent risks and mitigation strategies;
  • Preparing project / programme proposals and business cases; Planning and reviewing project / programme milestones and drafting and reviewing other project documentation;
  • Updating reporting systems to ensure the systems accurately reflect project / programme plans, schedules and status; Serving as an expert advisor and practitioner on project management competencies and processes, focussing on those which add genuine value;
  • Leading a small team to deliver against agreed programme / project outputs. What we needTo be successful in this role you will be an expert in all aspects of project management and an advanced user of project management tools and methodologies.

    You will be comfortable in engaging and building relationships with stakeholders. You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

    You will have a strong ability to build extensive networks with both professional civilian and military personnel in order to shape and influence within a complex environment, on behalf of your projects and programmes.

  • In addition, you will have 5+ years managing, leading and successfully implementing complex and multi-faceted programmes and projects in a commercial, government and / or Defence environment;
  • A relevant tertiary qualification or commensurate industry experience in project management including advanced formal training in project and programme management methodologies (PRINCE2 Essentials / Practitioner, and MSP);
  • Advanced use of MS Office (Excel, Word, Visio, Project, SharePoint) and PPM tools (Planview or equivalent tools). Who we areThe Navy Office of Strategy Management (OSM) leads strategy development and implementation for the NZDF Naval System.

    The functions of the OSM are planning, performance, risk, portfolio and knowledge management. This facilitates delivery of the current Naval System and stewardship of the Future Navy.

  • The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows : Higher level Security Clearance : most preferably a NZ citizen who has resided continuously in this country for the last 10 years, OR is a citizen of, and / or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years : either Australia, Canada, NZ, UK or the USA;
  • and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZSIS towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at a higher level.
