Nurse Manager Emergency Department, Middlemore Hospital

Fulltime, Permanent position A dynamic and experienced leader is needed to motivate, influence, inspire and lead others to develop the Emergency Department services, drive excellence in patient safety and quality of care as well as performance - the Emergency Department (ED) at Middlemore is looking for a Nurse Manager like you!

You will be leading a large team of approximately 300 nurses & clinical staff in delivering the very best standards of care and experience for our patients.

We provide quality and timely acute emergency services to 117,000+ patients per annum in our busy Emergency Department, encompassing acute (adult and paediatric), short stay and assessment units.

In this challenging role, you will manage a wide range of complex issues, across strategy, operational and human resources matters.

You will need to prioritise, be highly organised and work collaboratively to meet the shorter stays in ED target, whilst still providing a quality customer service.

This will require you to be innovative, think outside the norm and seek customised solutions to meet the needs of the service.

To succeed in this position, you will :

  • Provide effective day to day operational management, leadership and support for all nursing and support staff working within the ED
  • Have extensive clinical knowledge and experience in Emergency Nursing
  • Be a partner in the shared governance of ED and work effectively with the Service Manager, Clinical Head, and the Clinical Nurse Director
  • Have high level skills in planning, reviewing, analysing and allocation of resources within budget
  • Demonstrate experience in strategic and tactical decision making, planning, implementation & flexibility to enable & lead service change
  • Promote excellence in clinical practice, ensuring high quality multidisciplinary care delivered to patients in a manner that is consistent with the vision and values of Counties Manukau Health
  • Foster an environment where staff feel supported and valued
  • Have significant leadership and management experience including managing a large workforce, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrate superior communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships across disciplines
  • Be an integral part of the wider medical and surgical service to ensure ED is well placed to support growing demand
  • The ideal Leader will have the following experience :

  • Senior Emergency Department nurse with 5+ years’ experience
  • Post-graduate qualifications / degree
  • Proven leadership experience
